This problem happens when blood leaks back through the valve after it fails to close completely or tightly enough. When the valve regurgitates, the supply of oxygen-rich blood moving through the heart is reduced. This can cause a person to feel fatigued or out of breath. It can also cause the heart to work extra hard to get an adequate amount of blood circulating through the body.
