Regurgitation: Wait and Monitor?

In most cases a regurgitating valve is not panic mode and for many people the problem never becomes severe. A mildly regurgitating aortic or mitral valve may simply cause the heart to compensate for the valve problem by working a little bit harder.

However, valve conditions should always be monitored by your healthcare provider because they do not “heal” or get better on their own. A mild valve problem may continue to be manageable for many years, but patients who have a valve condition should be aware that it may also worsen over time. With any valve condition, it’s important to keep an eye on symptoms and heart function.
